Kids R Kids Core Curriculum

Introduction

“Hug First, Then Teach” embodies the guiding principle of our school’s philosophy. At Kids R Kids, our teachers take on the role of caregivers as well as educators. Similarly the facility and AdvancEd accredited curriculum have been strategically designed by a team of early education specialists to foster cognitive, socio-emotional, behavioral, language and physical development in children of all ages.

Who Develops the Curriculum? 

Our curriculum and the associated program review is all developed in the Kids R Kids corporate office by a team of writers with over one hundred years of combined classroom instruction and curriculum development. To ensure that the curriculum grows with your child, they’ve developed the most age-appropriate activities and determined what supplies are suitable for which age group. This is especially important because many preschools have their teachers develop their own curriculums without the proper training in early childhood education and curriculum development. Corporate designs it while our teachers modify each activity to meet the specific learning needs of each children. Teachers also have the support of a full-time Education Director who helps to train teachers, provide resources and guidance, audits classrooms, and ensures compliance with Corporate standards. 

What is Our Teaching Method?

“Teach through Play” represents the hands-on approach employed by Kids R Kids. This is based on the works of Sara Similansky, Lev Vygotsky and Jean Piaget, renowned child development theorists. Research shows that young children learn best when they are allowed to explore and discover their environment, which is reflected in the thematic, psychological, and sensory structure of each suite’s daily schedule, classroom design, and curriculum.

Infant Program

The Infant Program extends from 6 weeks to 13 months. The classroom schedule for infants is individualized to meet the unique needs of every child. Each family will fill out an Infant Feeding plan, which designates the dietary schedule for each child. At the end of each day, parents will receive the daily report, outlining meal times and amounts, nap times, diaper changes, and curriculum activities. Online camera access is also available for increased transparency. 

Core curriculum activities include Greeting Time Fun, Arm Time Fun, Feeding Time Fun, Changing Time Fun, Teacher and Me Fun, and Tummy Time Fun. These activities are incorporated into every part of the infant’s day to encourage relationship building with his or her teacher and environment. Physical development is also encouraged through the variety of furniture available, including bouncers, cribs, rockers, play-pens, saucers and mats.

Supplements to the core curriculum include Brain Waves, Spanish/Sign Language, Music and Art. Brain Waves uses the latest developments in educational psychology to target each lobe of the infant’s mind individually. Activities for the frontal lobe focus on reasoning and problem solving. The temporal lobe focuses on auditory processing and memory skills, while the parietal lobe focuses on perceptual and sensory processing. Finally, the occipital lobe focuses on visual stimulation. Together, these activities strengthen the neurological pathways of your child’s mind to encourage cognitive, socio-emotional, behavioral, language and physical development.

Toddler Program

The Toddler Program extends from roughly 13 months to 24 months. At the end of each day, parents will receive the daily report, outlining meal times and amounts, nap times, diaper changes, and curriculum activities. Online camera access is also available for increased transparency.

The core curriculum builds fundamentals through a different theme, color, number, shape, and word every two weeks. Each day children experience theme exploration, Giggle and Wiggle, Imagine and Learn, Build and Construction, Discover and Grow, Sensory Play and Artistic Creation.

Supplements to the core curriculum include Brain Waves, Spanish/Sign Language, Music, Bye Bye Buggy and Art. Brain Waves uses the latest developments in educational psychology to target each lobe of the child’s mind individually. Activities for the frontal lobe focus on reasoning and problem solving, the temporal lobe focuses on auditory processing and memory skills, the parietal lobe focuses on perceptual and sensory processing and the occipital lobe focuses on visual stimulation. Together, these activities strengthen the neurological pathways of your child’s mind to encourage cognitive, socio-emotional, behavioral, language, and physical development.

Preschool Program

The Preschool Program extends from 24 months to 5 years. At the end of each day, parents will either receive the daily report or have access to the Car Talk board. The daily report outlines meal times and amounts, nap times, diaper changes and curriculum activities. Car Talk boards describe the curriculum activities of the day, menu items, and announcements. Online camera access is also available for increased transparency.

The core curriculum builds fundamentals through a different theme, color, number, shape, and word every week. Each day children experience Gather Together, Read Together, Wiggle Together, Move Together, and Create Together. 

Supplements to the core curriculum include Spanish/Sign Language, Music, Art, Math/Science Lab, Library, Computer Lab, Broadcasting Lab, ABC Mouse on both the Smartboards and iPads, and Brain Waves.
